Fister Targets First Win of Season

Doug Fister will make his third start of the season, searching for his first victory. 
Fister allowed three runs in five innings to the Blue Jays in his previous start, 
and finished with the no decision in a game the Red Sox won. 
The veteran right-hander, who was claimed off waivers from the Angels to 
take over for the injured Eduardo Rodriguez, 
notched a Quality Start in his other outing this season by holding the Angels to three runs in six innings. 
The Rangers have been trouble for Fister over his career as he owns a weak 5.19 ERA and 
a 5-6 record in 15 career starts.

The Red Sox are red hot offensively and are currently averaging 4.89 runs per game, 
good for eighth in the Majors, and feature a terrific .270 team batting average. 
The Boston pitching is sporting an outstanding 3.79 team ERA, placing them third in the Majors.

 

Cashner Roughed Up by Cleveland in Seventh Loss

Andrew Cashner will get the call for the 14th time of the year, looking to rebound from a rough start. 
Cashner served up five runs in five innings to the Indians five days ago, 
and was charged with the loss to bring his record to 3-7. 
The veteran right-hander has been hit hard in three out of his last four starts, 
however he still features a strong 3.87 ERA and a 1.48 WHIP in 74.1 innings logged. 
He made his first career start against the Red Sox in late May and 
allowed five runs in five innings and took the loss. 

The Rangers dangerous lineup is currently averaging 5.02 runs per game, 
ranking them sixth in the Majors, and own a .239 team batting average. 
The Texas pitching has been mediocre, 
posting a 4.45 team ERA, positioning them 17th in the Major Leagues.

 

I am siding with the Red Sox in this matchup. 
Cashner is struggling right now, posting a weak 5.56 ERA over his last six starts, 
and Red Sox are averaging 6.1 runs over their last ten games, 
so look for the Red Sox to continue their offensive onslaught in this one. 
Furthermore, Fister has pitched reasonably well in his two starts, 
and the Red Sox bullpen now features a stifling 2.88 ERA, 
which brings me confidence they can limit the damage and do enough to record the road win.
